Hurricanes, the Latter Days, and the Judgments of a Holy God

Along the gulf coast of the southern United States, one of the harder hit businesses from hurricane Katrina was the casinos, because by law they were required to be located on floating barges at the beach, which put them in the most vulnerable location, subject to the powerful storm surges. The gulf coast states relied to a great degree on the jobs and revenue the casinos generated, so they are a high priority in rebuilding the hurricane shattered economy.

New Orleans has rightly had the reputation of being "sin city", and today, October 7th, 2005, Mayor Ray Nagin proposed that the salvation of his city from the destruction wrought by two hurricanes might be possible, by allowing the gaming industry to convert the larger hotels in the downtown area into casinos. Tourism is the lifeblood of the region, and the politicians seem willing to permit or license nearly any vice in order to attract the tourist's dollar. It is no coincidence that the destruction wrought across the gulf coast has been described by some as "apocalyptic" or "of biblical proportions", no coincidence at all.

In the following verses, the word translated "whirlwind" is defined in Strong's Concordance as follows: H5591. ca'ar, sah'-ar; or (fem.) ce'arah, seh-aw-raw'; from H5590; a hurricane:--storm (-y), tempest, whirlwind.
